Understanding Network Attacks
Network attacks encompass a range of malicious activities aimed at compromising computer systems. They can be initiated directly by attackers or through malware installed on the victim’s machine. Common types of network attacks include:
-
Port Scanning: Attackers scan UDP/TCP ports to identify open ports and services on a target system. This reconnaissance helps them determine vulnerabilities and plan subsequent attacks.
-
Denial of Service (DoS) Attacks: These attacks overwhelm a system with excessive traffic or specially crafted packets, causing it to become unstable or unresponsive. DoS attacks can be categorized into:
-
Malformed Packet Attacks: Sending unexpected or malformed packets that the target system cannot handle, leading to crashes.
-
Traffic Flooding: Overloading the system with a high volume of packets, consuming resources and rendering the system inoperative.Kaspersky Support

-
Network Intrusion Attacks: The most severe form, where attackers gain unauthorized access to the system, potentially taking full control. This access can be used to steal confidential data or use the compromised system for further attacks.
How Network Attack Blocker Protects Your System
Kaspersky’s Network Attack Blocker actively monitors network traffic for signs of malicious activity. Upon detecting a threat, it takes immediate action to prevent potential damage:
-
Automatic Blocking: The IP address associated with the detected attack is automatically added to a blocked list, preventing further communication.
-
Trusted Networks: You can manage a list of trusted IP addresses. If a trusted IP exhibits suspicious behavior, you can choose to unblock it or add it to the trusted list to prevent future blocks.
-
Manual Control: Users have the flexibility to review and manage both blocked and trusted IP addresses, ensuring that legitimate connections are not inadvertently blocked.

Importance of Keeping Network Attack Blocker Enabled
Disabling the Network Attack Blocker exposes your system to potential threats, increasing the risk of unauthorized access, data theft, and system instability. Kaspersky strongly advises keeping this feature enabled to maintain optimal security. The Protection Center will notify you if the Network Attack Blocker or other protection components are disabled, ensuring you’re aware of any vulnerabilities.
